RSTI meets the need for technical training

by Keith Loria, Reporter | June 10, 2010
RSTI is a technical
training institute

It was 25 years ago when Terry Speth, Sr., a Navy electrician who had headed up the educational facility at the old Picker X-ray facility, decided to start Radiological Service Training Institute, with the goal of providing diagnostic imaging training as an independent training center. Along with Larry Cornell and John Perez, Speth worked out of his basement and traveled across the country to provide basic X-ray service training at host hospitals. While Speth passed away in 2008, the business continues to grow as his legacy.

"Since then the company has flourished by sticking to its original mission of providing quality hands-on training to hospitals, ISOs and 3rd party service providers," says James A. Monro, Jr., president and COO of the company. "In addition to our superlative staff, we provide the latest lab equipment and test equipment available in the industry."

Located in Solon, Ohio, RSTI offers classrooms and lab facilities to accommodate up to 60 people, with each lab and classroom equipped with the best instruments and technology to assure all students are at the top of the service professionals market.

"RSTI is first and foremost a state-of-the-art, multi-vendor imaging training center," Monro says. "We are the only facility in the world that has more than 20 individual and complete rooms set up, strictly for training. We run the gamut of the finest analog equipment for each modality to the latest DR systems available. Today we also buy, sell and repair used medical equipment for use primarily in 40 foreign countries."

Since 1999, RSTI has expanded its instructor staff and lab equipment to keep up with the changing environment in imaging. Last year the company finished its seventh record year in a row, and so far, 2010 has them on pace to continue the record pace. For anyone who has dealt with them, it's no surprise that the company was included in the DOTmed 100.

"Our emphasis has never been solely about growth. Quality is our primary mission in all that we do," Monro says. "Rather than growing geometrically through acquisition, we choose incremental growth, making certain that we can manage our important contribution to the medical industry."

With a business philosophy to provide the finest quality, hands-on educational experience available globally, instructors from RSTI have taught in Japan, Korea, Belgium, South America and many other countries for those who have large groups needing training overseas.
