Capsule, the leading provider of medical device connectivity, announced the addition of 80 medical devices to its device driver library in the last six months.

The company supports more than 400 devices from leading worldwide manufacturers like Philips Healthcare, Drager Medical, Nihon-Kohden, Spacelabs Healthcare, Baxter Healthcare, Hamilton Medical, and Cardinal Health, and has proven device connectivity for 96 percent of infusion pumps on the market, 93 percent of patient monitoring equipment, and support for the largest number of ventilators, anesthesia machines and other devices used in the ICU today.

"To be a true leader in patient monitoring and information technology, you need to support the medical devices used by your customers, and there are hundreds of different medical devices out there," said Ken Fuchs, Director Systems & Connectivity Engineering, Drager Medical Systems, Inc. "Healthcare organizations today are looking to get more of their medical device data connected into their CISs and EMRs because they understand it improves clinician efficiency as well as patient care. We value our successful and continuing partnership with Capsule which spans more than six years. They have a very broad and capable solution for vendors that need a verified and validated 'plug-in' connectivity solution to integrate data from all of their customers' devices to their health care IT systems."

Capsule's Connectivity Solution features the largest device interface library available with support for more than 400 different types of medical devices including patient monitors, ventilators, infusion pumps, and anesthesia machines.

Capsule's core software product, DataCaptor(TM), automatically converts the medical device data to HL7 or XML format and integrates it with any Electronic Medical Record (EMR), Clinical Information System (CIS), and/or Alarm and Event Management system to enhance workflow, save thousands of nursing hours, and improve patient care.
