About a decade ago, Len Spooner and Gregg Pearson were sitting together talking about an idea for a new business that would focus on MRI & CT, and sketched out a business plan on a cocktail napkin. The two ex-GE engineers knew that developing a customer-oriented service approach was of utmost importance and they strived to create a company with a total commitment to customer satisfaction.

In 2000, their plan became a reality when MagnaServ Inc. opened for business, dealing strictly as a GE house. Within nine years, the company has become the largest independent service organization focused on MRI and CT in the United States.

"One of the things MagnaServ has done very well is offering customized field service programs tailored to a customer's unique requirements," said Bernie Bartoszek, Executive Vice President for the company. "There are no two customers alike, so why should any two service contracts be? We've done very good job of tailoring contracts."

What this has meant to MagnaServ clients is a fresh, dynamic focus on identifying what their core needs are and jointly developing a customized approach to meeting their diagnostic imaging service requirements.

With more than 400 clients worldwide, MagnaServ offers a wide variety of MRI and CT support services. They offer sales, service, leasing, scanner parts, mobile systems, fixed scanners, installation and deinstallation and inspections.

Some examples of their customized service solutions include:

* Turnkey Solutions: Equipment, mobile service, de-install/re-install and ongoing service.

* Biomedical Support Programs: Customized support programs to utilize customer's own biomedical engineering staff to lower costs for service.

* Equipment Selection Assistance: 40+ years in the radiology equipment world put to use in identifying the right equipment at the right price.

One of the keys to their success has been in hiring seasoned employees who know their way around the MRI and CT equipment and markets.

"Probably one of the big successes was finding and maintaining top quality field engineers as well as office and logistics staff. If you can find the right people, it makes it that much easier to go out and get the business," Bartoszek said. "We do not hire any field engineers unless they have at least 10 years of field experience, so they've been around MRI and CT for a while."
