DOTmed reports from the meeting
Las Vegas--Radiology decision makers and department heads have converged here in the desert, just off the exciting Las Vegas strip, to mingle, get continuing education credits, and to discuss the challenges faced by administrators in today's imaging industry.

AHRA's 37th Annual Meeting and Exposition is being held at Mandalay Bay Convention Center August 9-13. AHRA is the advocacy organization for the medical imaging management field.

"The mission of the annual meeting is education and networking," AHRA president Penny M. Olivi told DOTmed News. "The structure of the meeting is to pack in as many educational sessions and continuing credits as we can, and to provide networking opportunities. We have the exhibit hall, lunches together and lot of receptions in the evenings, all in an effort to bring people at the meeting together."

AHRA leadership reported that 1,100 paid attendees had arrived by Monday and there were about 3,000 total on site, including members, exhibitors and vendor personnel.

The management conference has featured four keynote sessions, including an opening ceremony presentation from national speaker John J. Nance, former Air Force pilot and author of "Why Hospitals Should Fly," as well as breakfast roundtable discussions, including Equipment Contract Negotiation, and several breakout sessions such as Getting Under and Beyond the Numbers: What Effective Radiology Management Leaders Need to Master in the 21st Century Radiology Service Sector, plus a range of continuing education courses.

The 10th annual AHRA Education Foundation Golf Tournament took place over the weekend and for those wanting the burn the candle at both ends, exclusive vendor-sponsored parties dotted the local casinos, giving exhibitors and imaging professionals a chance to let loose and make connections.

One of the main highlights of the educational aspect of this year's conference has been the practice management track and Leadership Institute, which are guiding incoming as well as tenured imaging management professionals as they navigate legal, regulatory, budgetary and other landscapes of the imaging industry that are constantly changing.
