The unit turns on and works. It has been connected to a computer and was visible. Haag Streit remoted in and could configure the connection, and it successfully initialized and ran through its startup routine.

However, as the field tech had come to perform preventative maintenance, calibration and testing, he got about a third way completed until he found that the “inner-bowl” of the unit has damage due to, it seems, the previous owner trying to clean a significant amount of dark smudging on it. The technician tried to clean it off, but couldn’t get it off. The tech also said that the “inner-bowl” is supposed to have a matte finish that seems to have been removed. There’s an isolated spot in the bowl that seems to still have a trace amount of the matte finish remaining, but overall, it is smooth, and it doesn’t suppose to be smooth.

From a clinical viewpoint, although the unit will power on and run tests, it’s not usable. The smudges in the bowl will alter Contrast and Luminance, which will alter whether a patient can see the stimulus the way that a normal, healthy person should. This means that it’s normative database will be meaningless for comparative purposes, and any “defect” that it flags on a patient (because they couldn’t see the stimulus) can’t really be trusted from a comparative standpoint.
