I'm not familiar to Pegasys computer, but I'm familiar to UNIX Systems. The magic number error you get is related to a HD which was bad configured to run properly under Unix (Solaris in your case, I guess). If you got that error after formatting a new HD and ready to install the Unix kernel then you can go back and re-read the software installation procedure (most OEM make installation scripts which do the whole procedure) and repeat the steps. Maybe during the re-reading you will find a step forgotten. If you got that error just after powering up a console which ran smoothly until the previous day, it's very possible your data are gone due to a HD hardware problem or a HD logical problem. Maybe if you can supply a little more info about how you arrived to this error there is a possibility I can give you further support.
Hope the above lines are useful for you.
