I have quite the same problem with two different units.
After switching power on, the keyboard is on but theres no beep. Then the screen may stay black for a while, and some times it shows a white background with a grey box (no text at all), and on some occations it may show another shaded rectangle inside the grey box.
Very rarely the unit keeps resetting, but with the same description as above.
One of the units worked just once, and while was on, it rebooted and thats it.
I removed the battery, cleaned up some of the mess it left around but the service manual is old and is not quite the same for these boards.
thanks for the tip, but the output seems ok +5 -5 +12 -12.
I started checking the signals in the uP bus, and the line which corresponds to the output pins of the ROMs are not ok.
It should be a digital "square" pulses, but some of them are triangular, just as if theres a huge capacitive load, or that the output driver of the ROMs is not capable of driving the line.
I've changed the chips but the problem persist. In the case I have to replace the ROMs, is it possible that anyone has the code to burn into them? I don't have the number now but tomorrow I'll post it.
Juan, thanks for the reply.
I've checked the PSU and voltages are ok
+5
-5
+12
-12
Are all present in the boards connectors and are stable, even when resets.
I continued looking, and I found that some of the output signals of the ROM chips con the CPU board are not ok. It seems as the output driver of the ROM can't handle the capacitive load on the bus.
I don't have a 4ch DSO to see the bus line and control signals all at once so as to be sure that the ROM is the problem. In any case, if I have to change this ROMs for new ones, does anyone have the code to burn on them?
The number is (M0501 3.0-1) and (M0501 3.0-2)
Thanks for the answer. The PSU seems ok. I've tried with the video switch in all positions...The last I have is what I replied to juantonita, the signals in the ROM bus are not ok.
Would you please check the followings, first?
1. power supply are working to normal.
2. Main CPU is working to normal.
3. Connectios are good or not between PCBs and motherboard on that system.
I want to know about some informations (as serial number and system version)for helping you.
Please contact me to my e-mail if you want.

Hi. i am having stairs like effect on the boundries of scan image. Rest of thigns are fine but i have to smooth the scan image boundries. Kindly suggest mefix of it.. Machine is Aloka SSD-500...
Don't forget to measure the high voltage which is which excites the transducer
Send me your email to give you the service manual that I believe you will serve much help
