I am trying to back up my SCSI hard drive on the Philips BV-300. I can connect it to my computer but it doesn't detect information on the hard drive.
My computer sees the hard drive "Seagate ST51080N" but it is not allocated a drive number (ie C:), and when I select properties/volumes/populate. I get
Disk: Disk 1
Type: Unknown
Status: Not Initialized
Partition style: Not Applicable
Capacity: 1028mb
Unallocated: 1028mb
Reserved: 0mb
If anyone can help me read this hard drive and thus copy it I would be most grateful.
You can certainly use Alpine Solutions however consider the following.
Your computer will not recognize the drive or data because of the format used on the drive. A standard PC doesn't have the ability to read the partition table or data and hence can't copy. Since your PC can't read (ir interpret) the data, it will never be able to copy.
The solution that will work for your situation is a Linux box. With Linux, you can use a documented command "dd". dd will make a direct bit for bit image of a source drive to a destination drive including partitioning information and data. dd isn't trying to read the data, only the bit for bit information so it can (and will) make a direct and accurate copy of the original drive.
