Collimator Mirror Retractor

March 25, 2014 08:00

Is the mirror inside an x-ray collimator adjustable? I have seen on many collimator units a "mirror retractor" adjustment option, but I am not sure what it does. Can you change the x-, y-, z-, and/or angular position of the mirror? What reason is there to adjust the mirror in the first place if the light source is already adjustable?

On some collimators adjusting the mirror angle is the way the light to x-ray fields are aligned (in one axis only). Some older collimators allow for the mirror to be flipped out of the way to reduce filtration (some mirrors had an aluminum filter on the back of the mirror), usually for mammography.
