CTi scanner table problem

August 27, 2010 10:53

Hello:
I have a problem with the cradle of a GE CTi CT scanner. When turning on the machine I can't make cradle reference, the display just keeps flashing and the cradle advances about 6 inches and stops, pushing again the IN button advances about 6 inches and stops. If fast motion is activated cradle advances just a couple of inches. Checking the log I get this message:
Host: ETC Proc: Cradle Error 182213
File: Cmd Motion Function: Pat Anatomy Positionin
HW Error: Velocity Tracking Error
Expected Velocity 500 (0.001 mm/sec)
Actual Velocity 8097 (0.01 mm/sec)
Current Position 5523
Velocity Tolerance 250
I have already performed charachterization once and have the charachterization files restored. Potentiometer seems to be OK (at least votages are reasonable). Every once in a while cradle works OK, with slower speeds, but keeps working OK just for a few minutes before failing again. The failure doesn't allow to make zero for positioning the patient therfore no studies can be performed. I will appreciatte any help you can provide. Thanks.
Elias

Elias,

It sounds like you may have a faulty longitudinal encoder. Other things to check and/or replace would be the cradle servo amplifier in the table base, verify that the stranded steel cables running to the cradle pot/encoder assembly are not kinked or broken, and the longitudinal limit switches.

Good Luck,
Elliot

Limit switches seem to be working OK, as well as the potentiometer, I got reasonable voltages on the board when moving manually the table. The steel cable seems to be OK. Yesterday the table started working OK and kept working for about 5 or 6 hours, after performing a shutdown it failed again and have not worked since then. Another symptom, when moving the cradle it runs at a higher speed than normal and frequently keeps moving even after the IN or OUT button is released. Problem started after replacing a Power Supply in the SGI's Indigo2 computer, a couple of patients were made and then the table started to fail. So far I have not considered the power supply had anything to do with the failure. I'll try to get an encoder and the amplifier. Would the ETC board be considered also? Thanks.

If you have access to an ETC board, I would certainly have it on hand since it reads the encoder pulses and sends velocity commands to the servo amp.
