DryView 5850 Error 27611

February 06, 2015 04:17

I tried to install a DryView 5850 in Jamaica that was stuck on hold after the doctor was murdered. Brand new, in the box, for two years. For some reason CarelessStream does not have the K number in there system, and are not willing to help, I guess the think it is a counterfeit system or something. After following the instruction to prepare the system for use, it gives me a 27611 error, Optics: Internal Hardware Failure. All the documentation says is to reboot. Does someone know what this error is? I would like to use this for more than its current function as a step stool the the upper storage shelf.

A request sent to Carestream
Dear Carestream,
While working on a DryView 5850 with a 27611 optics error I came the following:

When the top cover is open the 24volt safety circuit opens K1 on the 8F3363 board to prevent the laser turning on by disconnecting only the -5 volt supply to OM526038 optics module.
The +5 volts is left connected the optics module. This results in about 0.9 volts positive on the negative supply line inside the optics module.
In the optics module, U5, an OPA890ID operational amplifier has pin 3 connected directly to ground and pin 4 has a positive voltage on it.
This reverse bias of U5 and reverse polarity of electrolytic capacitors C13, C22, and C25.
When the top cover is left open for a long period, U5 and the electrolytic capacitors burn.
Apon closing of the top cover after one or more of these components have failed, the relay K1 now closes and reconnects the -5 volt supply to the failed component(s).
The -5 volts is now overloaded, resulting in U3, an UCC384P-5 LDO negative voltage regulator, to burn.
The failure of U3 results in the burning of U6, a DCP020507U Isolated DC/DC converter.

I have saved the burned components.

It is not an abuse of the unit to forget to close the top cover. Leaving it open should not result in an unsafe condition. This is an unacceptable design problem.
Please let me know when a safe replacement IM526038, Imaging Assembly is available.

Carestraem has said again that they cannot find my K number.

My response to them is as follows:
This is the reason I was servicing it instead of you. Two units were bought about 3 years ago by Dr. Chamberlain, one for Mandeville Radiology and Imaging Services (MRIS) and one for Kris Radiology. On July 14, 2012, Dr Chamberlain was murdered before the system was cleared for import in to Jamaica. The units took almost a year to be delivered, no one even knew about the units until they showed up at Kris Radiology. When the 5850 was delivered I unpacked it and followed the installation instructions. The unit was then powered up and came up with a 27611 optics error. At that time I call Carestream and was told that because you could not find the K number the unit would not be repaired. The unit was at that point stored. After the old camera failed I decided to try and repair the unit myself. When I disassembled it I found the burned parts. What was strange was the burned supply capacitor and a shorted IC, U5. Normally only one component fails to stop a unit from working, but I had 2. I check the -5 volt supply and found it to be positive. I repaired the burn components in the -5 volt supply, however, there was still a positive voltage on the optics supply to U5 and the filter capacitors, an unsafe condition. This is the result of K1 being open. I closed all of the safety switches and K1 closed, connecting the negative supply and removing the unsafe condition. Because this has become a safety problem requiring changes to the original design, I have contacted Carestream again. I believe I have a retrofit that can solve this problem while still keeping the safety system functioning. I have decided to reach out to your company because it has become a safety issue. This will give you the chance to decide how to proceed with the retrofit of the other units and what reporting of this will be required.

Carestream has admitted that the -5 volt rises to +1 volt when the top cover. That have chose not to explain how this does not cause damage to U5 in the optics module. As a warning to all, leavening the cover open on this unit will cause damage to the optics module according to TI, the maker of U5 in the optics module. Also opening and closing the cover often will cause damage to U3 and U6 (the optics negative 5 volt power supply to the optics module) by discharging positively charged capacitors into the negative supply. I am now contacting the department of health in Jamaica where the unit is located to get their opinion about the safety of this product.
