GE LS16 User Protocols Problems

Anyone having the problem that after a full software reload and after restoring the System State, when trying to scan using one of the User protocols a message appears saying "Can't read selected protocol, please choose another protocol" appears? In the LightSpeed 4.x application tips and work arounds manual it says to delete the protocol and rebuild it. There has to be a better way or a patch.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
