HDI 3000 hard drive/CPU question

March 30, 2008 03:17

When a hard drive goes on one of these systems can you replace it with a hard drive with the same software level? Or does the software have to be reloaded to the new hard drive?

What is the procedure when a CPU board goes on the system? I know you just can't swap the CPU board because of the firmware.

My problem is a hard drive went on one system and a CPU on another system. Both systems do not have the original back up disks. Can the hard drive and firmware from a good system be swapped?

Mike,
I just saw this or would have replied sooner. The system software and Options file must be loaded onto the new hard drive. If you have a backup MO of the entire System (hard drive), then you can do a restore operation to the new hard drive; IF you have access to diagnostics on that system. Otherwise, you need the system software disk and the Options disk in order to do a complete installation of the software.

The software Options file is tied to the Chip ID on the CPU board. You can "move" the software to another system by moving the Chip ID or entire CPU board to that system.
