Medrad Spectris issues

May 18, 2012 12:05

We have a Spectris, I do not have the manual. I need to check it but I do not know how far the light has to be from the source(also want to make sure of the source's location)
Unit self test but can not find the injector, batteries charge but only to 50%, the light on the battery assembly blinks green, but there are about 5 lights in there but only one blinks.

Any suggestion is appreciated

There are two optical transmitters - if testing the system w/o the glass as an intermediary, ensure the OTR units are 2-6" apart. The batteries when inserted into the charger unit will always show 50% until the battery reaches 100% charge (depending on the state of your batteries, a full charge may require 8 hours+). If the batteries are unable to receive and/or hold a charge, they will continue to show 50% charge and will also likely not properly operate your system. Check your battery voltages (~12v DC battery). Feel free to call to discuss more testing possibilities. 888-667-1062

Ryan,

Thank you so much for the reply. Batteries must be old and I am missing the optical transmitter on the box side, so I have to see how much it would be to make it complete again.
I will call you to see if you have the parts.

Hi Ryan, do you have any service manuals for this unit? Please send me an email at schen@radwest.org and let me know.

Thanks much

The two OTR's should be 2-6" separated. Any battery plugged into the charger unit will show a 50% charge during the charge process (no matter the initial charge value); once it reaches a full charge then and only then will the indicator show 100%. Depending in the condition of your batteries, it may take 8 hours+ to fully charge one battery. You can also check the actual voltage of the battery (~12v DC). It is of course possible that your batteries are too far depleted to accept a charge...which in turn, it won't be capable of properly running the system. Feel free to call to discuss other troubleshooting alternatives: 888-667-1062.

The two OTR's should generally be separated by 2-6". Any battery plugged into the charger unit will show a 50% charge during the entire charging process (no matter the initial charge on the battery); once the battery reaches 100% charge, then and only then will your charge battery indicator show anything other than 50%. Furthermore, depending on the age and condition of your batteries, it may take 8+ hours to fully charge each battery. You may want to also check the actual voltage on the battery (~12V DC). It is possible that the batteries you are using have been too far depleted to accept a charge.....this of course would lead to a lack of communication as well. Last but not least, it is possible that 1 of your OTR's may have failed. Feel free to call to discuss additional troubleshooting: Ryan, Injector Support and Service, 888-667-1062

Being a former Field Service Rep, for Medrad, replacing the charger card usually cleans this up. Also, if your batteries are more than 2 years old, they need to be replaced. Spectris Batteries do not hold a charge well after 2 years.

Thank you so much for the reply, I think the batteries are old, I am also missing an optical transmitter.

If your missing one of the OTRs, you wont get any communication. Check online for available OTRs. The Spectris Injector is EOL and no longer supported by Medrad
