I am thinking about buying a 4-8 slice Ct scanner, which one would you recommend? I need something reliable, easy to maintain (with no password required to access service), replacement tubes at a reasonable price.

I was technical support at GE during 35 years ..I left 2 years ago this company and i started working on the CT since the first system in 1976 ..
So for the CT multi slice , to day dont buy 4 slices because it was just introduction and you cannot find parts avaiable for the GE CT QX/I systems ..They manufacture a small amount of this 4 slices systems and then jump to 8 slices quickly.
All the company are protecting their business and needs a Service Key , but without password ..
Try to buy directly 8 or the best is 16 slices .You can have good exams du to the quick acquisition.
To day there are 2 companies leader and reliable ( TOSHIBA and GE ).
if you need help and assistance you are welcome .
Also before to buy a system please check it and see it running at the customer site .
Buy 8 or 16 slices because the price is almost the same ..The GE 16 slices are very known , but i cannot say on the other competitor because i dont know the systems ...But all the CT manufacturers are protecting themselves and also you can buy the service KEY from GE for servicing your system ..try to confirm and check before you make your right choice ..
With GE i know that they have a good service and any big issue can be solved quickly by the GE service ..

As far a sthe user standpont, there are both great systems it depends on what kind of exams you want to perform whether you should get 4 or 8 slice, but if i had to make choice i would go to 8. There is a generic password to get in to shell but many people know. scott@sfgimaging.com
