Philips MX8000 problem

May 22, 2012 09:26

Hi friends ,

For a Philips MX8000 , 4 slice system , we have the following problem :
The system was working normally and all exams has been done smoothly , then the customer heared suddenly a high noise inside the gantry . We powered the system off and opened the gantry cover , tried to move the gantry scan frame by hand . It moves but very hardly . Then we looked everywhere inside the gantry to see if there is some broken parts or screws or nuts any where . Everything was normal and no visible damage at all . Problem still there . Need your urgent advise . Thank you

If it is not the main bearing it can be a loose magnet (or magnets) of the main drive. Easier to fix, any way, but takes time.

On these units, it is very, very important to grease the bearing in the Gantry!!!!!!! They freeze and it takes great effort to repair this problem. This is why is soimportant to lubricate this bearing periodically, specially if the unit is used constantly. It could very well be that the bearing is broken as it is told by Mahmoud, but also it could be loose magnets in the main drive as it is said by Fernando. Try also to disengage the belt and see if the gantry rotates freely like this, then you will know where to look for. Good luck, I wish you the best.

Is possible that you have a problem with the magnets inside the bearing.

First check if the dynamic brake has failed and has become engaged. Gantry rear bottom right is a contactor. Disconnnect it completely and see if scan frame can be moved by hand. If not, bad news: Sometimes the main motor magnets come loose, and jam the rotation. To verify you need to remove the slip ring (gantry rear) and look for the motor windings, the magnets are next to them and are gray in color. If one or several are loose or broken thats your problem. Not easy to fix.

No doubt about it. You have got one or more loose magnets. Hard work to fix them back.
