Is there some issue with the way that Philips PACS burns a CD? Is it somehow compressed? On two occasions now I have been unable to view all of the DICOM information from CD’s. As part of our workflow we view images in e-film that we receive from any number of imaging centers. Is there something they need to do at the site when they burn the CD to make it compatible with other systems?
What version of iSite is this site running? Philips iSite does not burn a DICOM compliant CD, there is no DICONdir on the CD. eFilm will have issues with that. The more recent versions of isite do allow you to burn either iSite format or DICOM or both. Old versions did not have the DICOM ability.
Mike,
There shouldn't be anything they would have to do to make it compatible with other systems.
Some of the big PACS companies do not really adhere to the standard for burning CDs, in this case part 10 of the DICOM standard. We have found cases where for example McKesson has the same issues. You can view the images with the built in viewer and even import it into Efilm, but you can not import it into a PACS systems as it it does not really complies with the standard.According to the IHE Technical Framework, vol III , p172
Appendix E: DICOM Media Interchange – Critical DICOM Compatibility Tips
10. Objects in DICOM files shall be stored in Explicit VR Little Endian (not Implicit)
