I am receiving an error 1029 when attempting to perform a save_site command. The tape drive is loaded with the correct tape and the lights are functioning. The process will wait for 120 seconds then timeout. If you press the key you will receive the error as follows:
*** Error in open(): IOABORT- I/O error
ex-8200: errno = 1029
tar: /dev/mt2: IOABORT- I/O error
*** Error in open(): IOABORT- I/O error
ex-8500: errno = 1029
Save of files complete
I also get another (warning) message:
*******************************************
Verify the tape contains the correct files
*******************************************
tar: /dev/mt2: IOABORT- I/O error
Can not open /dev/mt2 device
Can anyone please shed some light on this subject? I have tried using a blank tape, and swapped another tape drive which I believe is good and the problem still persists.
It is a problem with the Tpe driver. You should check the cofigur with IQ>show_cnf,make clear what device for archieve:ex-8200 ,ex-8500 or MOD?
check the ID set on tape driver.

OK I found my answer...the "replacement" tape drive was also broken. Just replaced it with a refurbished EX-8205XL drive and all is OK again.

Be sure to do a swconfig to avoid problems reading tapes made with the old drive(s).
