There are two infrared emitters and detectors near the barcode reader where you insert the cassette. Make sure they are clean. You can use a cotton swab and try and clean them with that or open up the assy. Make sure you clean both the emitter and detector. I always clean these during a PM.

The error indicates that there is a cassette inserted. Check all your sensors they may be dirty or bad maybe check and reseat cables to sensors. You may have to open the unit to clean the infrared sensors and emitters good.
