Is the tube "mileage"....the time tube is exposing Xrays.
in the conventional 3rd generation CTs, was measured as "slices", because every gantry rotation meaning one definite scan.
once helical appears,gantry can rotate infinitely, then the slice as unit was not useful, since the gantry can make as much rotations without xrays, until operator activates the scan button...same to end study, if exploration finishes, but operator does not clic on "end exam", gantry rotates a lot before stop.
Another side of the measuring as slices or exposures, is the fact that counter only counts one unit for every energization of tube, does not matter if the exposure was a tiny scout, of a full body helical exploration. Then, the counts give not a idea of real mileage....
In the systems with big tubes, and low use, you can find that tube use is more in warm up protocols, than patient scans...System shows both values.

This tell us how many seconds the tube was both powered and scanning a patient.
