I have a Universal MP500 - 30kW generator. The maximum kV is limited to 99 kV. I want to configure this to 125kV. Does anybody know how to do this?
I have service manual 8000-MP500 rev A (feb 9 1995)- but no discription how to configure kV max.
Thanks for your reply.
The kV selection on the console is limited to 99 kV at the moment. My customer want to dail up to 125 kV maximum in future. Is there a possibility for a hardware configuration
There is an Eprom to de-rate the generator, but that normally does not limit the kV. It would limit the mA and the Eproms would de-rate from 30kW to maybe 18kW. It sounds like a different problem, maybe something on the main board in the operator console.
I can send you the manual. However, nothing states in the manual about changing tube type. It says to consult the factory for this. I do not know how it would be changed, but I suspect it probably requires a change of an EEPROM, probably to drive the filaments. The list of tubes compatiable is over 30 tubes in the manual. The generator really doesn't know what type of tube you may be using. It has no type of settings or selections for different tubes. Again, just that are able to adjust the mA waveform to flat, across the top. I can still send you the manual if you need it. Galen
I would say either a problem with the display/control p.c.b in the operator console or possibly a problem with memory/program p.c.b in the card cage in the generator cabinet.
Thank you for the support.
In fact there is no error in the generator, the system is working properly. 'Somebody' just limited the generator to 99kV (for radiation law reason). Now the customer asked for higher kV settings. In the limited service documentation I have there is no indication that the kV can be limited to
I have done service of this model generator since they were first manufactured. The generator does not have any field service configuration or modification mode that would you set or change the maximum kV limit. At least not that I am aware of. There are changes that could be made to configuration through a series of dip switch settings, but they are settings for disable/enable AEC, table bucky, wall bucky, etc. Also there are power on defaults as to what the displays will show at power on. For instance, you can set the dip switches so that the displays will show 300 mAs and 125 kVp when you power on the generator, however, in your situation I don't believe this would help. It appears that someone had a factory mod of the software done to limit the kV. The software is burned onto an Eprom.

Do you mean you can only dial up 99kv on the console or the console has 125kv on it and the actual kv measured is only 99kv?
