Zeiss Neurosurgery Microscope Problem

November 06, 2007 08:43

Hi Folks, I´m writing now becouse I have a problem with a Zeiss Neurosurgery Microscope.
The light was loosing intensity. I allready check the Fiber Optics Light Source, and it´s seem to be OK. It´s a Prescott´s unit, with a lamp of 150W. I think that, may be, the problem is in the fiber optics (that it´s cover it with flex stainless steal).
Anybody have the same problem?
Anybody know what kind of fiber optics is?
Thank you very much for your time,
Kind regards,

Gustavo Volpi

gustavo:
A few tips....
1. you can check the fiber optic seen for an extreme and pointing the other to the ceiling light source. If you see a lot of black dots, the fiber is damaged and need to be changed.
2.- Is the lamp old? an old lamp loose its normal bright gradually
3. Do the power supply match with the lamp voltage / amp rating?
4.- Sometimes lenses become dirty with something like smog that acts like a dark or polarized lenses. check and clean as nessesary.
5.-check focus position of the lamp. A miss positioned lamp can´t send all its light throught the fiber and it traduce in a weak light
good luck
Jose

Dear Jose,

Althogh this is a bit offtopic, I have a problem with a zeiss OPMI Lumera T, superlux xenon 180W light source. Surgeons complain of insuficient light intensity, even after changing both light bulbs. Also they complain about flickering (as when a light bulb seems to "blow" and die) after about an hour or so of continuous working.

Do you know of any problems related to the power supply or other part related to light source that could interfeer with this? How can this be solved?

Thank you and best regards
