The Triage® Cardiac System is a hand-held, point-of-care diagnostic cardiac marker test capable of detecting an acute myocardial infarction (AMI), commonly known as a heart attack, in about 15 minutes. The Triage® Cardiac Panel provides a rapid, quantitative screen for three cardiac markers, creatine kinase-MB (CK-MB), myoglobin and troponin I, which are released in the blood when an AMI occurs. Developed by Biosite Incorporated, the Triage® Cardiac System consists of two components: the disposable Triage® Cardiac Panel and the portable Triage® Meter, the size of a business telephone, that displays results.
A premeasured sample of whole blood or plasma is placed on the Triage® Cardiac Panel which is then inserted into the Triage® Meter. The meter simultaneously measures the concentration of all three cardiac markers and displays their quantitative values on a numerical electronic display. The meter also prints results, stores patient records and has a data port to download the analytical information. Biosite developed the Triage® Cardiac Panel to improve emergency healthcare by providing physicians with real-time cardiac marker results at bedside that can lead to faster, more accurate diagnosis and treatment of AMIs.
