An electrosurgical unit (ESU) is a medical device used to cut, coagulate, desiccate, and fulgurate tissue during surgery. It uses high-frequency electrical energy to generate heat and cause tissue destruction. The electrical energy is delivered through an electrode, which is usually a metal wire or blade. The electrode is connected to a generator that produces the electrical current.
ESUs are used in a variety of surgical procedures, including laparoscopic, endoscopic, and open surgeries. They are also used in cosmetic procedures, such as laser hair removal and tattoo removal. ESUs are used to cut, coagulate, desiccate, and fulgurate tissue, as well as to control bleeding.
The cost of an ESU can range from a few hundred dollars to several thousand dollars, depending on the type and features of the unit. Major manufacturers of ESUs include Conmed, Ethicon, and Bovie. These companies all offer a variety of models with different features and capabilities.
