Going to AAMI this weekend

by Philip F. Jacobus, CEO | May 30, 2012
I'm really looking forward to this weekend. I'll be down in Charlotte, N.C. attending the AAMI 2012 Conference & Expo, which runs Saturday through Monday.

I've been going to the AAMI meetings for years, and I always find the guys (and gals) in biomedical engineering to be among the friendliest professionals in health care. I've worked with so many engineers in my time that it's fun to get together again with old colleagues.

And this year promises to be a very high-spirited meeting, because of some of the topics that are going to be discussed, particularly the divisive Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services maintenance rule, the subject of a Sunday morning session by Stephen Grimes. For those who don't know, the rule, which was clarified in a December CMS memo, limits how hospitals can deviate from manufacturers' preventive maintenance (PM) schedules, and some hospital engineering departments have found it burdensome.

I'll be at the show Sunday and Monday, so please stop by our booth (#1025) and say hello. Sean Ruck, our editor in chief, will also be in attendance, so please say hi when you see him.
