Shirley, NY - Biodex conducted its annual Radiation Protection Safety Training on May 23, 2013. Although required by the NYS Department of Health - Bureau of Environmental Radiation Protection to provide Radiation Protection training to all employees, Biodex approaches the task as an opportunity to further invest in the knowledge bank of its staff.
Ann Marie Alessi, Product Sales Manager, Nuclear Medicine and past president of the Society of Nuclear Medicine Technologist Section led the training by providing employees with a high level understanding of the various types of radioactive materials that there are-from the natural radiation found on earth and in space, to man-made radioactive materials for nuclear medicine and medical x-rays. She provided further education on radiation protection basics as well as covering the radiation shielding products manufactured by Biodex and their role in protecting both patients and those actively involved in nuclear medicine.
Clyde Schlein, Vice President of Regulatory Affairs & Compliance, shared the positive results of our recent NYS inspection along with the many procedures Biodex has in place for when authorized Biodex personnel need to move radiation sources and use them within the facility.
The training ended with these parting words... "Radiation can't be seen - We have to respect it."
