The Nitty Gritty
In addition to the OEM perspective, the webcast featured an in-depth talk by John Glaser, senior adviser to the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT at the Department of Health and Human Services. Glaser is also CIO of Partners HealthCare, a large delivery system in Massachusetts.
Go online to get his update from Washington including the status of meaningful use, the stimulus bill (ARRA) and funding. For instance, he detailed how meaningful use criteria will grow stricter over time, beginning with its initial requirements for 2011.
Glaser also provides his perspective from the health plan's view.
"For a long time we were focused on adoption but the government is saying adoption is insufficient; you have to use [health IT]. And only if you use it will we get the kinds of outcomes that we'd like to see as a country," he said.
