DMBN: How do you think technology has improved care at your hospital?
DM: By investing in our technology and infrastructure, we have been successful in allowing our clinicians to be more productive, allowing them more time to care for their patients. Out RTLS system shows staff exactly where their equipment is, eliminating the need to wander the unit going from room to room searching for it. Having vital signs monitors in each in-patient room reduces infection risk by not rolling devices from room to room, potentially spreading infections from one patient to another. Our aggressive program to integrate existing systems to pull disparate data into one place to create dashboards and business intelligence allows us to study current practices, refine them, and increase productivity and staff and patient satisfaction.

DM: We are really excited about the prospect of the soon-to-be-released integration of our IV Pumps and EMR. This will allow pump programming data to flow from the EMR to the IV pump and data on volume delivered to flow from the IV pump to the EMR. This saves nursing time and reduces errors by not having to manually program each infusion on the IV pump and enter volume delivered into the EMR. The patient safety implication for this functionality is phenomenal.
