HCBN: What will be the focus of this year’s conference?
SM: HIMSS14 focuses on underscoring the value of health IT in transforming health, including the conference themes of innovation, impact, and outcomes apparent in the more than 300 education sessions in 23 topic areas. In addition, the more than 1,200 exhibiting companies on the exhibit floor offer an interactive approach to learning about and seeing health IT in action. The programming content areas of focus include: Clinical & Business Intelligence, ICD-10, Interoperability, Meaningful Use, Mobile Health, Patient Engagement and Value of Health IT.
HCBN: Is there any new technology that you think people should be paying attention to that will be featured prominently at the show?

SM: The consumer health technology products and patient engagement are something to watch at the Connected Patient Learning Gallery. I also think the endpoint computing technologies that will be shown on the exhibit floor are ripe to transform in the next few years.
HCBN: What advice would you give to first time attendees?
SM: Go to the orientation for new attendees. Find a friend to attend education sessions and walk the exhibit floor with. Do what interests you. Take time to rest. Enjoy the nighttime activities in Orlando. Plan to attend HIMSS15 so you don’t feel too much pressure to get everything in this year. Have fun!
