REQUIREMENTS: Florida Board of Medicine requires physicians renewing their licenses to complete the following CME courses during each relicensure period:
1 hour HIV/AIDS*
1 hour Domestic Violence**
2 hours Prevention of Medical Errors, which must cover 1) Root cause analysis; 2) Error reduction and prevention and 3) Patient safety.
*Physicians may complete a one-hour CME course on end-of-life/palliative health care in lieu of the required one-hour CME course on HIV/AIDS, provided that the physician completed the required HIV/AIDS course in the immediately preceding biennium (the 2-year licensure term).
**Additionally, physicians may complete a one-hour CME course on end-of-life/ palliative health care in lieu of the required one-hour CME course on Domestic Violence, provided that the physician completed the required Domestic Violence course in the immediately preceding biennium (the 2 year licensure term).
Physicians are not required to complete the end-of-life/palliative health care course; however, they may choose to substitute it for the HIV/AIDS and Domestic Violence courses if they completed the required HIV/AIDS and Domestic Violence courses during the preceding biennium.
PLEASE NOTE: The 1-hour substituted course claimed for HIV/AIDS cannot be the same substituted 1-hour course for Domestic Violence. This means that you can take two different one-hour end-of-life/palliative health care courses or one two-hour course.
