Therefore, in addition to level of cognition, patient's amyloid concentration, glucose metabolism, cerebral blood flow, functional activity, and brain atrophy in 78 areas of the brain were factored into the research, as seen in the image below.

Evans said that this study is “just one of hundreds” of scientific papers to come from the ADNI database. “That by itself is justification for ADNI and data sharing. We benefit from the data put in by others, and we contribute our own data,” he said.
The team believes this "open science" approach to research is a promising frontier for expanding our understanding of medical conditions, and hopes to continue pushing the limits of what data analytics can reveal about neurological conditions.
“The main contribution of this kind of data-driven study is to highlight the crucial need to develop more integrative models based on the available information,” Medina said.
“Our goal is to go to a high-level, causal modeling of the interactions amongst all of the factors of disease, but you need huge computational power to do that,” said Evans. “It’s our job to be ready with the software, the algorithms, and the data while we wait for the hardware to appear.”
