Prior to pursuing a medical career, David attended St. Paul's Institution in Seremban, Malaysia, where he finished his form lower sixth secondary schooling in 1978. He went on to complete his senior certificate through the Queensland Board of Secondary School Studies at Kelvin Grove Adult Matriculation School in Brisbane in 1979. Upon completing his medical degree or Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery through the University of Queensland in 1985, Dr. Wong joined Princess Alexandra Hospital in Brisbane as an intern. He went on to serve the hospital as a junior house officer and radiology registrar. Early in his career, he served as a surgical principal house officer with the Rockhampton Base Hospital and Queen Elizabeth II Jubilee Hospital, radiological principal house officer with Townsville General Hospital and in-house medical offer with the Sunnybank Private Hospital. He completed his radiology training in 1996 at the Princess Alexandra and became a fellow of the Royal Australian and New Zealand College of Radiologists (RANZCR) in 1997. He then attained his nuclear medicine fellowship by being the nuclear medical registrar with the Prince of Wales Hospital and St. Vincent's Hospital in Sydney and became a member of the Australian and New Zealand Association of Nuclear Physicians (ANZAPNM) in 1998. He obtained his PET experience with the Peter McCallum Cancer Hospital in Melbourne and attained PET credentialing through the Joint Specialist Advisory Committee in Nuclear Medicine in 2002. He became a fellow of the Australasian Association of Nuclear Medicine Specialist (AANMS) in 2012.

In 2003, David completed a cardiovascular MRI fellowship through Barnes-Jewish Hospital in St Louis, Missouri and attained Level 2 Certification in Cardiovascular MRI. He also completed his Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with the University of Central Queensland in 2007.


A recognized authority in his field, A/Professor Wong serves as clinical advisor with the Office of the Health Ombudsman in Queensland, board approved assessor with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and expert witness with the RANZCR.

Previously, David was on the Board of Directors for I-MED Queensland, Chairperson of Nuclear Medicine Advisory Group, Clinical Services Capability Framework (CSCF) for Public and Licensed Private Health Facilities in Brisbane, assessor with NATA (National Association of Testing Authorities), on the Clinical Management Committee, Southernex Imaging Group, researcher with Wesley Research Institute, Senior Lecturer in Medical Imaging at School of Medicine, Central Clinical Division University of Queensland, Pt II RANZCR Radiodiagnosis, in Nuclear Medicine Subcommittee RANZCR (Qld) and supervisor for Nuclear Medicine & PET Registrar and radiology research fellow at The Wesley Hospital. He was also the convener for the RANZCR and Australian and New Zealand Society of Nuclear Medicine (ANZSNM) Annual Scientific Meetings.
