The back training app `Kaia´ is a good example of how the apps presented at MAC not only stand for creative ideas in theory, but are also convincing in daily practice. The app came third in the 2017 MAC. Today, the German health insurance company Barmer offers their customers a free, one-year trial. Users can then decide whether they want to continue using the app for a multidisciplinary back pain therapy that complies with the guidelines and is subject to a fee.

The INNOVATION WORLD CUP has the devices you need

The INNOVATION WORLD CUP finals (http://www.innovationworldcup) in the Healthcare category will also take place during MEDICA 2019 (November 18 at 1:00 pm), as part of the MEDICA DISRUPT program. Here, the best medical IoT solutions will be presented (IoT = Internet of Things). Applications for this competition can also be submitted until September 18 - ten finalists from several hundred applicants will have the opportunity to present themselves in the final. StethoMe´ was the much acclaimed winner of 2018. It is a cordless stethoscope that even amateurs can use to examine the lungs and hearts of their children. The start-up aims to enable parents to quickly check the condition of their children's airways at any location and at any time and to exchange data with medical experts.

The meeting point in the MEDICA START-UP PARK

For visitors interested in start-ups and their concepts for improved and simplified healthcare, the MEDICA START-UP PARK (http://www.medica-tradefair.com/msup2) in Hall 13 is a must. More than thirty start-ups have already registered. Six of them benefit from the support of the Merck Group's global Accelerator Program. The strongly research-driven science and technology company based in Darmstadt, Germany supports start-ups with the aim of entering into a partnership with them. In addition to financing, it offers access to facilities and premises in the Merck Innovation Center and the opportunity to become part of a network of more than 50,000 experts and alumni in 67 countries.

The Accelerator programs of Merck and Bayer G4A are representative of a whole series of such funding initiatives. A new highlight for start-ups will be the Reverse Pitch at MEDICA 2019. It will follow the final round of the MEDICA App COMPETITION on November 19, starting at 3:00 pm on the stage of the MEDICA CONNECTED HEALTHCARE FORUM. Companies will present their accelerator programs to win the favor of start-ups. First the start-ups introduce themselves, then the accelerators - and finally use the get-together to decide whether they are a perfect fit.
