Regarding the recent CMS and ONC proposed rules on interoperability, 48% expect their current vendor to provide solutions that meet the new rule requirements. About one in five plan to hold off on investing until they know the new rules more, and 16% plan to accelerate investment. Only 13 say they already are in compliance with the new rules.

“EMRs need to acknowledge that they won't always be able to serve up the best solution for every use case,” said Kovalick. “They need to start thinking about strategic partnerships with vendors who may be filling a gap that they can't fill well, or can't fill quickly. Vendors, for their part, really need to focus on their proof — case studies, economic models, and more — that will demonstrate a solution is the right fit. Healthcare leaders will also want to see a commitment to improvement such as a road map of what's ahead, and examples of how the vendor listens to customer feedback.”
