Experience
Above all else, Mackenzie Health set out to build a hospital “designed through the eyes of the patient, connected to nature and enabled by smart technology.” While all RLTS applications can help enhance or maintain a patient’s overall perception of a healthcare facility, some have a more direct and substantial impact on patient experience.
At Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital, that is the case with an RTLS integration involving CenTrak smart badges and electronic bedside displays manufactured by a third-party vendor. Together, these devices alert patients to the presence of a staff member in their room and informs (or reminds) them of the employee’s name and position, contributing to stronger and more transparent interactions. Similar RTLS integrations involve the hospital’s electronic health record system and mobile communication devices used by staff.

A key aspect of end-to-end RTLS solutions is scalability. With open universal infrastructure, these solutions can be continuously integrated as new systems become available. With a comprehensive real-time location system, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital opened as a hospital of the future with the patient experience at its core – and plans on staying that way.
Fully integrated and ready to grow
While Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital is the first facility of its kind in Canada, Mackenzie Health and Mi2 are committed to maintaining a culture of innovation that surpasses industry norms. A key aspect of any modern RTLS is its ability to evolve as needs change and more information comes to light. As a strategic technology partner, CenTrak will continue to work closely with Mackenzie Health’s leadership team to track key performance indicators and make continuous improvements while embracing additional RTLS use cases and integrations as they are brought to market.
Today, Cortellucci Vaughan Hospital’s RTLS automates data collection using multiple locating technologies and thousands of sensors embedded in asset tags, employee badges, and other IoT devices spanning the entire healthcare enterprise. A single, integrated platform processes that data to provide real-time alerts, automated reports, and advanced analytics. The result: more efficient hospital operations that allow staff to focus on providing world-class care as well as a modern environment conducive to quality and safety that exceeds consumer expectations.
