An update on patient access to medical records

by Gus Iversen, Editor in Chief | August 07, 2023

As consumers, we anticipate that a website will respond in a single second. We get frustrated when it's loading for more than two seconds. Given the current state of our digital world, it seems unfathomable to imagine that you can't request your medical records and get them almost instantaneously. Instead of gaining immediate access, patients have to wait for someone to mail or fax their records to them. We need to and can eliminate this cumbersome process, but it’s a project which needs participation from patients and providers alike.

Patients are seeking easy-to-use tools to quickly request access to their medical records, often in a digital format, and providers have it in their power to improve this patient access and meet this request. Implementing record retrieval tools empowers patients to get their medical records easily and instantaneously, similar to how patients utilize any other streamlined consumer tool.
