IBA debuts compact synthesizer for radiopharmaceutical manufacturing

Ion Beam Applications (IBA) has introduced a new automated synthesizer aimed at improving the efficiency of radiopharmaceutical production, particularly for radiometals.

The system, called CASSY — short for Compact Automated Scalable SYnthesis — is designed to integrate into existing lab workflows and optimize space within hot cells.

The Louvain-La-Neuve, Belgium-based company said the unit’s compact form factor allows up to six modules to be stacked inside a single standard hot cell, potentially expanding output without requiring additional lab space. CASSY supports both purification and radiolabeling processes and is built to handle a variety of radioisotopes, including those used in emerging radiotheranostic applications.

CASSY® operates with single-use cassettes developed by Fluidomica, an IBA subsidiary focused on disposable components for radioisotope production. The preloaded cassettes come with the necessary reagents, connectors, and auxiliary components, streamlining setup and reducing the need for manual intervention.
