A new manufacturing facility opened this week in Dallas, North Carolina, with the goal of bolstering domestic production of materials used in pipette tips, key components in diagnostic and life sciences work.
The site is operated by Premix Oy Inc., a subsidiary of Finland-based Premix Group, and is expected to create 40 new jobs. The facility will produce roughly 1,210 tons of Carbon Black each month, a specialized, medical-grade thermoplastic designed for high chemical resistance and dimensional stability.
It is used in producing pipette tip resin compounds that meet stringent requirements for clinical and laboratory environments.

Pipette tips are widely used in clinical diagnostics, drug development, and biomedical research. Disruptions in their supply — like those seen during the COVID-19 pandemic — can pose a risk to laboratory operations and public health response.
The Administration for Strategic Preparedness and Response (ASPR), part of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, supported the project through its Center for Industrial Base Management and Supply Chain. ASPR awarded approximately $80 million to Premix Oy Inc. to expand U.S.-based production of the pipette tip resin.
“Bringing manufacturing for medical supplies back to the United States ensures that our supply chains are secure,” said John Knox, principal deputy assistant secretary for ASPR. “Opening this new facility ahead of schedule delivers on President Trump’s promise to prioritize American manufacturing and re-shore the production of critical medical materials.”
The ribbon-cutting was attended by Knox, Finnish Ambassador to the United States Leena-Kaisa Mikkola, and Premix executives.
