Disruptive pressures
For American HIT companies, Scientia predicts mid-term success but long-term challenges. Indian IT firms could one day position themselves as a cheaper alternative to American players, as they did for other kinds of software and computer technology; open-source could one day eat into profits.

And though it's growing, it could be a young man's game, at least for private practices. "I'm seeing doctors who are at the beginning of their careers to midpoint of their careers adopting these systems," says Glorikian. "Physicians later in their careers, they'll say, 'In five years, look, I'll be retired. I'm not going to spend money to replace [my system] now.'"
