Servicing cath angio labs

Lakeshore Technologies, formally Syracuse Scientific, is a worldwide manufacturer, servicer and retrofitter of cath angio systems. Race says many facilities are opting to retrofit and upgrade rather than go all out just yet. A typical digital retrofit can cost about $60,000.


"Service to an existing lab is relatively inexpensive compared to purchasing a new lab and having to de-install the old lab and install the new," comments Race. "You can't really upgrade to a flat panel device, but you can upgrade to a digital package using a closed circuit device, which enhances the image intensifier technology. This allows you to save your money until you can afford that $500,000 or $1 million lab."

New era for special procedures

This complex, competitive and technologically advanced sector of the industry is set to experience significant growth in the not-to-distant future. Procedures are projected to continue developing and increasing in number as physicians, surgeons and radiologists continue to redefine their specialties. As economic distress begins to ease, with any luck, new upgrades and labs should usher in a new era for angiography, interventional radiology, and other special procedures.
