Humedica, a clinical informatics company, announced the launch of Humedica MinedShare Ambulatory, a clinical analytic solution, at the American Medical Group Association (AMGA) 2010 Conference last week.

Humedica partnered with AMGA and Anceta to introduce the new software-as-a-service (SaaS) solution. The product enables users to obtain comparative analytics at the organizational, patient and physician levels.

"Humedica MinedShare Ambulatory extracts and integrates clinical, claims and operational data from medical groups' electronic IT systems to generate a complete view of an organization's patient population," says A.G. Breitenstein, vice president and general manager of provider markets for Humedica. It "does all the heavy lifting for an organization, meaning we develop a single standard ontology and normalize the data to facilitate the comparative analytic and benchmarking process."

The product displays substantial analytic information in a highly interactive user interface, a design that allows customers to visually identify emerging trends in the data. The Humedica MinedShare Ambulatory also enables users to assess costs associated with the patient care of certain populations.

"Humedica is providing select cost metrics, such as ambulatory RVU's associated with the treatment of patients, by disease and co-morbidities. As such, medical groups can determine how expensive it is to achieve select outcomes in these patients," says Breitenstein. "For example, we can quantify the number of resources required to treat and control a particular patient group, such as Type 2 diabetics with hypertension. Groups plan to apply their own risk measures to select patient cohorts appropriate for analyses. In the future, Humedica will apply its own risk measurement criteria to patient populations that incorporates cost measures," she says.

The product allows users to evaluate their clinical performance and compare it to national or regional benchmarks, as well as participants in the Anceta Collaborative Data Warehouse. Anceta is a healthcare informatics subsidiary of the AMGA.

"Humedica's partnership with the AMGA and Anceta provides a unique and ideal forum for participating medical groups to benchmark against comparable patient populations, collaborate to identify best practices, implement change and track and measure the impact of these changes," says Breitenstein. "The AMGA's Anceta Collaborative Data Warehouse facilitates comparative analytics and benchmarking as well as the development and sharing of best practice and performance improvement strategies by bringing together participating AMGA medical groups. Ultimately, participating AMGA groups will be empowered with the data and knowledge to enhance quality, safety and cost-effectiveness," she says.
