A-Life Medical, Inc.
expanded its management
team
At the end of last year, Jaye Connolly, president of A-Life Medical, Inc., a computer-assisted coding products company, sat down with the company's executives to work on goals for 2010. They made plans to build a strong management team. Three recent additions to the A-Life Medical staff are helping the company meet its goal.
Rand Smith was recently named the director of finance and administration, a newly created role at the company.
"My responsibilities are going to be supervising and directing all of the reporting, treasury, accounting, finance, audit, tax, real estate, forecasting, insurance activities that you typically find under finance and administration," Smith told DOTmed News. "I'll also be responsible for any plans for implementation of any new strategic goals and any new product lines that we may pursue."

Prior to joining A-Life Medical, Smith served as controller and corporate secretary for iMetrikus, Inc., a health care technology company.
"The common link between two pioneering health care technology companies is really what attracted me to A-Life," said Smith. "I can continue pursuing that same direction."
The company also hired a new director of sales, Maryagnes Mark. She has been in the industry for about 30 years and has written extensively and spoken nationally about computer-assisted coding.
"My role and responsibilities would be to primarily focus on the sales and business development efforts for the company's hospital subsidiary, which is A-Life Hospital, which will provide computer-assisted coding solutions to hospitals," Mark said. "This is very exciting for the hospital industry because this is like leaving a foot mark in being the first into this area. I'm very excited about coming on board with A-Life because they are one of the forerunners and the only product that really has taken this foot mark and gone forward with it."
Craig Scott, who initially joined the company as a software engineer, has been promoted to the director of engineering and information technology.
"My main responsibility will be leading the engineering effort of the medical and hospital divisions of the company, as well as the IT department," said Scott. "I think my key responsibility is to identify and capitalize on opportunities for common development projects across the divisions and work with the IT group to make sure that we're positioned well for the future in terms of scalability, security and redundancy in our IT infrastructure."
Scott is particularly excited about some of the development opportunities that are on the horizon for the company, such as data mining as a new product offering, which would be offered to both medical and hospital sides.
"I think that's really got some exciting technology possibilities and there certainly is a need for it in the marketplace and I think there's a lot of interest in it," he said.
Connolly said the three "seasoned professionals," who were recently added to the management team, are well-known experts in their industry, which makes them great additions to the company.
"We've really seen some great things after just a couple of weeks," she said.
In 2009, the company grew its employee base by 50 percent.
A-Life Medical is based in San Diego and is a provider of computer-assisted coding products and services for the health care industry.
