Merge Healthcare formed
a technology agreement
with Intrinsic Imaging
A newly announced technology agreement made Intrinsic Imaging, a bio/pharmaceutical medical imaging services organization, the first to implement the new Clinical Imaging Management System (CIMS) from Merge Healthcare, a health IT solutions company.
CIMS from Merge Healthcare is a comprehensive solution for managing all aspects of imaging in clinical trials.
"What we've tried to do is bring in a number of technologies that have been developed and validated in the radiology and tele-radiology markets into clinical trials," Jon DeVries, general manager of the eClinical Division for Merge Healthcare, told Dotmed News, "to try to leverage the expertise and resources and investment that's gone into the radiology market and make those technologies available to the clinical trials industry in a single, integrated platform."

More than 60 board-certified diagnostic radiologists on the Intrinsic Imaging team will use Merge Healthcare's CIMS for comprehensive clinical trial image management.
"We are very excited about it. It's the first commercial package to allow us to process images in clinical trials very effectively and very efficiently," Todd Joron, president and COO of Intrinsic Imaging, told DOTmed News. "This will greatly allow us to process clinical trials, the medical imaging portion of clinical trials in compliance with FDA requirements," he said.
DeVries said that in order for CIMS to be successful in the clinical trials industry, the company needed to integrate four different components into the system. CIMS brings together image submission, a web-based archive, image viewers and analysis tools and an electronic data capture system.
"It's all one single integrated system from the time you enroll a patient in a trial through acquiring images at the site, uploading, storing, analyzing and then reporting on the data, leading to an FDA submission," said DeVries.
Joron of Intrinsic Imaging said he's glad to be working with Merge Healthcare.
"We think they're a great company. They have a lot of experience in the field of clinical trials and we have a lot of experience in the field of medical imaging," he said. "It's not only using their software for processing of images but the two companies will be able to work together collaboratively and be able to bring a total solution to clients."
DeVries said that with Intrinsic Imaging's extensive expertise and a strong business leadership team, the organization is poised for success in their field.
"I think they've brought together all the ingredients to be a very successful imaging core lab, providing medical imaging services to the clinical trials industry," he said.
DeVries said Merge Healthcare is excited to be selected by Intrinsic as "the best platform they could find."
