When the University Radiology Group in New Brunswick, N.J. needed a new chiller, it wasn’t an easy process since the site called for the chiller to go into a parking garage.

“The standard air-cooled set up wouldn't work, so our engineers worked with the contractor and GE to solve the issue using a horizontal exhaust manifold to vent the exhaust air out instead of up,” Johnson says. “It’s important to consider everything before purchasing your chiller equipment.”


Looking ahead
Dimplex is currently in the research and development stage of a new technology called microchannel processing, which may make condensed coils and evaporator coils more efficient.

“We are testing these with some of our non-medical applications at this time, ensuring that they meet expected efficiencies and reliabilities,” Bernard says. “We are always looking for better efficiency and we are always looking for ways to reduce cost without reducing quality and reliability.”

With many hospitals coming out of the recession with capital equipment needs, it is expected that the chiller industry will be on the upswing in the months ahead.

“We are looking at 2011 to be a good year as far as capital equipment goes,” King says. “We plan to continue putting a lot of energy into the energy savings side of things and expect the chiller market to be very strong.”
