Accuray Inc., a global radiosurgery giant, announced the appointment of Bob Wong as the general manager of the Asia Pacific region Thursday.

Wong is not completely new to the Sunnyvale, Calif.-based Accuray. He was the managing director of the APAC region - which encompasses Australia but excludes India and Japan - from 2005 to 2008. Upon leaving the company, Wong held various leadership positions in the health care industry. Wong worked for Canada-based IMRIS Inc., an image guided solutions company, and Haemonetics, a Mass.-based marketer of automated blood processing systems.

"We are happy to welcome Bob Wong back to Accuray. Wong's more than 26 years of work experience with 20 years in the medical capital equipment business along with his network of industry contacts in the APAC region and successful sales track record, will make him an asset to Accuray's APAC operations," said Euan S. Thomson, president and CEO of Accuray, in prepared remarks. "The APAC region already accounts for more than 10 percent of Accuray's installation base. Under Wong's leadership, Accuray is well-positioned to continue growing its global footprint."

Wong will be responsible for the sales, service and marketing efforts for the country's APAC region business. There are currently 24 CyberKnife Robotic Radiosurgery Systems installed in the region, according to the company.
