InfraReDx, Inc., a cardiovascular diagnostic imaging technologies developer, said Wednesday Donald Southard joined the company as president and chief executive officer.

Southard replaces Dr. James E. Muller, who is now the chief medical officer of InfraReDx and chairman of the company's board of directors. Southard was also elected to join the board of directors, the company said.

"I am very pleased to be joining InfraReDx at such an exciting time in the company's evolution," Southard said in prepared remarks. "With its leading-edge technology, I believe InfraReDx has a tremendous opportunity to truly impact the evaluation and treatment of patients undergoing coronary intervention procedures. Dr. Muller has done a tremendous job advancing the company to where it is today, and I am pleased to be working with him and the world-class team he has assembled."
Before joining the Burlington, Mass.-based InfraReDx, Southard was the CEO of Zonare Medical Systems, where he oversaw the company's first product launch and grew annual sales to $50 million. He has held sales, service and marketing positions with major medical device manufacturers, such as Toshiba Medical Systems Inc. and Philips Medical Systems.

"Don's extensive organizational leadership and product commercialization experience, as well as his in-depth knowledge of the ultrasound imaging market, make him the ideal leader as we continue the launch of the LipiScan IVUS system," Muller said in prepared remarks. "I look forward to working with Don as we expand access to this novel multimodality intravascular imaging system to improve patient care."
