There has been much conversation regarding patient dose during CT exams. The reported patient dose is an estimate created by the CT system -- it is not a measured quantity. The dose is controlled by the CT system based on the procedural program selected for the patient. The CT system controls the kV, mA, and exposure time. Factors such as the image distance and the X-ray tube are constants.
During the replacement of an X-ray tube or any PM (preventative maintenance), it is imperative that the OEM calibration procedure be followed completely. This will ensure that voltage and filament characteristics operate within the OEM specified range. Enough time should be allocated to double-check all calibrations. It is much better to take a full day for proper and full calibration than to make a return service call. Your customers will appreciate your due diligence upfront, rather than repeated disruptions to scheduled exams.
