Jack Sparacio
Point-of-care ultrasound maker SonoSite Inc. said Wednesday it appointed two new executives to the C-suite. Jack Sparacio, former sales head of SonoSite's parent company, was named chief operating officer, and Matthew C. Damron, who comes from communications agency TBWA/Chiat/Day, was named chief marketing officer.

Kevin M. Goodwin, the Bothell, Wash.-based company's president and CEO, said the hires fit with the company's goals of realizing 15 percent compounded sales growth and 20 percent operating margins by 2014.

Sparacio previously was the president, CEO and owner of Plastic Engineering and Development, a plastics component manufacturer in the medical device field, where he helped triple sales, SonoSite said. Before that, he also served as worldwide vice president of sales and service at Advanced Technology Laboratories Ultrasound, from which SonoSite was spun off in 1998.

Damron comes from TBWA, where he held accounts for Johnson & Johnson, the Alexian Brothers Hospital System, and Schering Plough. Before TBWA, he worked for Madison Direct Marketing, Nexgenix and McCann Erickson, SonoSite said.

As part of their compensation package, both men received 30,000 stock options. Sparacio also received 30,000 restricted stock units, and Damron 25,000 restricted stock units.

"These are critical appointments for SonoSite and, most importantly, both moves are funded by organic savings," Goodwin said in a statement. "Thus, we are adding management strength without additional operating expenses."
