“We’ve introduced some contests and things like that to just try to engage a little more with our customers,” says Glas. “It’s been pretty good . . . I have noticed some increased interest.”
The prognosis for parts providers
“I think that we’ve seen a lot of consolidation in the market, of different companies that are in this space, and we’re probably going to see a difference in what the focus of those companies is,” says Kramer, who feels that the purpose of those consolidated businesses will be altered in order to serve the agenda of the parent company. “I think that in essence, there’s going to be fewer and fewer really, truly reliable parts providers out there looking out for the greater good of the entire marketplace, with the ability to really reach out to every type of customer out there.”

Suffridge forecasts that moving forward, there is going to be a continuation of consolidation among parts providers. He also feels that there will be a growing demand for higher-quality parts and ISO certification. In addition, he believes that electronic commerce will continue to pick up momentum and squeeze out phone sales over the next two to five years. “I think we’re about to hit a point where the market out there starts to take advantage of technology from a buying perspective in this sector,” he says.
“From a product perspective, I think there’s going to be a big move towards digital,” says Glas. “I think the OEMs are almost predominantly digital [in the parts they offer] now. So that’s going to be a big [change] that parts vendors [undergo] in the next three to five years. There will be a lot of digital inventory acquired.”
“I think there’s a lot of opportunity in the medical parts sector, especially with the economy staying the way it is, there’s a lot of opportunity for people who can create the relationships and maintain the supply of parts,” says Woodward. “I think one of the biggest possibilities is with all of the new sophisticated equipment, they’re going to need ways to figure out how to repair those pieces rather than replace them. And in doing so, I think that kind of repair research is a huge opportunity.”
