ColdTRAC updates
ColdTRAC was first launched in January 2010. More than four dozen units have been installed, and Walker said they expect to double that number by the end of the year. ColdTRAC units are licensed, not sold, to customers. Walker said this allows Genesis to continue research and development improvements for the technology. This also allows updates and added features for customers licensing ColdTRAC, without forcing them to buy a whole new system.

One upgrade for the new version 2.0, Walker said, is that ColdTRAC can now work over a virtual private network (VPN). The first iteration had to be hooked up to a hard-wired phone line. "Hospitals used to have a lot of phone lines available. They don't anymore," Walker said.
The new version also added a few new monitoring spots to better gauge coldhead efficiency. But perhaps most significantly, users can now check up on their MRI unit through a website. Once they log in, they get access to a dashboard with monitoring parameters, thermometers and pressure gauges, which are color-coded green, yellow and red.
But Walker said Genesis is already at work on version 3.0.
"ColdTRAC 3.0 will allow Genesis to provide even broader monitoring of the systems. The use of satellite phone technology for a mobile MR should also be available as an additional feature. More on this will be released before the end of 2011," he said.
